Hello this is Mike Pennacchi owner of Network Protocol Specialist LLC. Whether you're at the office and home or on the road, wireless connectivity has become a critical part of our daily communications. If you're tasked with maintaining a faster reliable wireless network being able to analyze and troubleshoot that network, quickly and efficiently is mandatory. There are many factors that impact the ability to transport packets successfully across the wireless network. These include interference from non-Wi-Fi devices, cross channel interference, overloaded access points, poor wireless coverage, and rogue devices.

Without the ability to view what is going on on our wireless networks, becomes virtually impossible to ensure their proper deployment and troubleshoot them when they're broken. Troubleshooting wireless networks properly requires we have the ability to view what is happening at the 2.4 and 5 gigahertz frequency ranges, monitor Wi-Fi traffic, as well as monitor, and capture traffic on the wired side of the access point. Fortunately, the OptiView XG provides a single platform that combines all the tools necessary to troubleshoot both sides of the access point in a highly portable and rugged platform. The OptiView XG has a spectrum analysis and two Wi-Fi radios built in. One of the benefits of having both of these cards integrated into the same platform is the ability to combine the information collected by the spectrum analysis card with that information collected by the Wi-Fi cards. On the wireless side, the error magnet software suite provides the ability to monitor and troubleshoot all aspects of Wi-Fi communications.

Spectrum XT performs 2.4 to 5 gigahertz spectrum analysis. The Wi-Fi Analyzer Pro allows us to monitor, capture, and report, on Wi-Fi traffic. And Survey Pro is used to map out the existing wireless network to ensure the proper coverage is being provided to the customers. The combination of these tools, provides an impressive tool set for conducting wireless troubleshooting and assessment. Once we start digging into problems on our wireless network, we will find that the problem isn't always with the wireless network. The OptiView XG can use a simple network management protocol to retrieve key information from wireless LAN controllers. This allows us to discover the wireless stations connected to the controller and retrieve performance information about those stations. When it comes to capturing traffic on the wired side of the controller the OptiView XG's ability to capture at up to full line rate 10 gigabits per second, allows us to capture and analyze this traffic without packet loss. Should problems exist between the wireless LAN controller and the access points being able to determine the exact path those packets take through the wired network reduces the amount of time it takes to get to the root of the problem. Having all the tools necessary to troubleshoot both the wired and wireless side of our network infrastructure integrated into a single rugged portable analysis tool ensures we have all the tools necessary with us when we go out to troubleshoot problems.
